This is what is, is. (2)

.....I am sitting here at the computer, alone, with the alarm button around my neck just in the event that I might fall or get caught in a hurricane; or a gator might come up from our lake with the intent to devour me.  The chance that I might need to push the button on this device to summon the medics is nil to nada.  I have now gone into the hyperbaric oxygen tank 20 times, and the pain doctor has prescribed 20 more times for me.  I really do not know how much good it is doing me--if any. I'm told that the sore at the bottom of my foot is getting "smaller" whatever that means.  Then there is the wound care nurse who comes here every three days to dress the wounds on my leg and the physical therapy nurse who also comes here every three days to give me physical therapy. The pain that I have suffered in the past month still haunts me, but I have mounted a defense against it, so it can pain me all it wants; it won't affect me in the least.

.....The truth is, that I am getting really tired of the routine I find myself in with doctors of every ilk and kind; that is, ilk doctors and kind of doctors.  I would like very much to stop taking every single pill I have and stop seeing doctors.  I'm afraid, though, that this option is not currently viable.  RH+ would definitely not allow it, and at the current time I am under her control. So, the facts of life are these: I can't do anything about the situation I am in with the residual effects of my hip surgery.  The pain is what is, is and will remain so for no one knows how long. The only thing that has brightened my days has been the visit of Bonny, Sean, Joel and Barbara.  They helped me to forget my woes.  (See second blog this day)

    Hi Cuzzin Baron
"Smaller" means "less big," and is the Comparative form of the adjective "small," which means "little." Now - I'm sure you know all that!!! Are you telling us that you think that the dr. is mistaken, and that the sore is the same size as it was? Please be honest with us!! If the sore is still painful, but is diminishing in size, then all you have to do is wait; and take some effective analgesic as advised by your dear friend Phil B. (And now MY good friend, on account of all the friendship and affection he has shown me!) If the sore really is the same size as it was, you will have to consider another more radical therapy, eg, a skin graft. Now - which is the case? Be honest, because on both sides of the Atlantic, your devoted fans are hoping and waiting for your recovery!!!
Yes, Bonny is lovely! And don't daddies just adore their little girls??

  2. Now to satisfy all the question marks that may be floating around, the sore on my heel is diminished in size compared to what was; however, it isn't any less painful as yet. There may have to be a skin graft. The pains I was having in my leg also have diminished, and I am thankful for that. And I am getting a little concerned about the relationship that appears to be developing between Ruth and Phil. I do not want their relationship with me to be diminished in any way. I am also pissed at the way the US women's soccer team lost to Brazierre. The ref stole it from us when she ordered a re kick on the penalty. It was a chintzy call which smart refs do not make.

Hey Hey Hey doesn't look like you saw the amazing end of the soccer match. All I saw was the last 15 minutes, Klaus filled me in on the penalty kick that happened earlier. But some amazing things happened in the last minutes: a goal tying the game and then the sudden death shoot outs. U.S. is still in.

    Dear Baron
    1 Thanks for info - everything is much clearer now, and I'm glad your hip pain is diminishing;
2 The beautiful friendship that is developing between Phil and me is nobody's business but Phil's and mine, ha ha. But if we wanted you out of it in any way, we could just send emails to one another, only we're not doing that; and
3 I can't understand a word you said about the women's football. Mike was watching it: and he enjoyed the bit where two ladies banged their bosoms into each other. And he UNDERSTANDS football!!
    Much love, Cuzzin Ruth xx

Phil: Top Secret - what is your e-address?

  5. To further clarify for the Baron's readers, regarding the heel wound: The healing (pun noted, but not fully intended) is slow because the doctors do not want the wound to heal via a scab -- they want the surrounding skin to fill in "naturally." This process means the wound remains an open sore, which is quite an unpleasant sensation. The Baron is quite sore about this process, very wound up about the decisions being made, and not so happy with the doctors, those heels (puns more intentional this time, but not very witty).

  6. Umm, Doc, the U.S. women's team DEFEATED Marta and her crew. This, despite having to play a woman short (unjustified call) and to overcome an incompetent ref. Doc Ross was one of the best referees ever at any level and is therefore competent to judge. USA, USA, USA!!!!

Unfortunately, I have entered into a part of the Baron's country that is best avoided.

Yesterday was one of the best days of my life. Two beautiful grandchildren came from Arizona to join the family barbecue in Bedford Hills. It was the first time all five "grand ones" had been together here in some years, and a great time was had by all.

Unfortunately, as we were going home< I fell down a couple of steps onto a cobblestoned driveway. Until a few years ago, I NEVER fell. However, it is now not so much a matter of lack of balance, as it is a lack of flexibility in the legs.

Normally, when I fall, I roll as I was trained to do, and there is little to no damage. This time, I was not on level ground so I flew through the air and landed on my head.

All things considered, not too much damage was done--a probable concussion; a split skull over the left eye, some minor bleeding from skin scrapings, and considerable bruising.

Why do I say "probable" concussion? Because I refused all medical attention except for first aid, got into the car, and drove more than an hour to get home. I hope to avoid visiting a doctor altogether, if possible.

However, the children and wife are setting up a hue and cry about getting a cane which I may have to do to make them (and possibly me) more comfortable. Enough of that!

The Baron's obvious jealousy about my relationship with Cuz Ruth is ill-founded. He will always be the center of the Universe for both of us as he is for all who are fortunate enough to know him.

I will acknowledge a special fondness for the Buzzin Cuzzin. Her wit, courage, common sense, and positive orientation are more enough reason to regard her with utmost affection.

And I do consider the fair lady to be a good friend, not least because she is a full-fledged member of the Red Baron Marching and Chowder Society.

Joel - why do the quacks not want the heel wound to heal naturally by way of a scab, causing them to keep it open deliberately? The only reason I can imagine is that if it heals naturally, the Baron will be missing a bit of foot. But would that be so awful, when you think of what he's suffering now and what he will continue to suffer? Only asking...

Cuzzin Baron - still thinking of you....I try to imagine your pain and send vibes of strength and courage. Pity all of us can't go through half an hour of it for you - I'm sure I could manage that.

Phil - with the utmost respect, I really think you should have been checked out for concussion. Anyone who gets a bad bang on the head for whatever reason gets checked out for it over here, for free of course. If a child gets even a slight bang on the head at school, the school sends out a standard note with the child when s/he goes home, advising parents of the event, and what symptoms should arouse concern and warrant a visit to kids' A & E. (Manny, my youngest, was very reckless and accident-prone as a child, and would frequently arrive back home from school saying, "Here's my head-bang note!")

Think you're great too - that's why I want you to take care of that dear clever and loving caring brain!! Cuzzin Ruth

  10. The Baroness (AKA RH+)July 11, 2011 at 5:00 PM

Sorry about your fall, Phil, but I have to agree with Cuz Ruth. You should have been checked out by a Dr. To clarify the reason the Baron's wound is very slow to heal, the circulation in his leg is very poor. The hyperbaric treatments are to force Oxygen into the bloodstream so that it can circulate and the wound can heal. Actually, it also gives him time to get in some extra zzzzzzzzzzzz. The Baron has admitted that the pain in his hip and groin area has now become less intense. Another benefit from the treatments. Now, if only, the wound on his heel will heal he'll be back in really good shape, for the shape he's in. We all had a very nice time at the casino yesterday, but we didn't win. Now winning would have really made his pain go away quickly.
