Surprise Party Feb. 28 celebrating still being vertical at 90.

.....OK, folks--this post will be #500!  It has been fun to write these things, but it ain't easy.  At times I lose my train of thought, and I can't dredge it up again.  Perhaps when I was younger I would have been able to do it, but I was doing other things--like making a living and putting food on the table.  With four famished kids one has to work much harder, and find odd jobs on weekends like refereeing for example.  I haven't forgotten my promise to write about what I am going to do. I already wrote about what I did, and what I was doing although I may not have finished the task.

......First of all I am going to retire from theatrical ventures. I succeeded in writing a musical. I think it is a darn good one, but I might not get to see it performed because, as Bobby commented,
an Eagle cannot soar when surrounded by turkeys.  No need to feel concerned because I will enjoy not having to get up early for rehearsals.  And no matter if the cast wants to change some things in it so that they will get the maximum applause or whatever.  I will forever know that I wrote a musical! An that's a fact.  Next I would like to try writing a play or a novel.  I have a half novel of sci-fi that I started a while ago but I left it to soak when we drove to NY and back, and I kind of lost interest in it. Also what I am going to do is to reveal to Ruth Grimsley the meaning of some obscure lettering. COPD means "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease". Then there's PTSD which means "Posttraumatic Stress Disorder" once called "shellshock" or battle fatigue,  and then there's ED meaning "erectile dysfunction". Now don't blame me. I didn't make these up, but I think I have them all. At the moment I also have Edema. With all of this, I will somehow survive. Survival is my thing.  Well, I know this is kind of short; I have to go watch SUV on TV.

Er...dear Baron, I know about the initials of all the disorders that you mention. It was the sporting ones that threw me. The question was, WHAT is it that is chronically obstructing your lungs? To the best of my knowledge, COPD is not a disease that is endogenous. Workers with coal, steel, asbestos, cotton and other foreign substances that are inhaled suffer from it. WHAT did YOU breathe in? German flak? Carbon and paint and wood dust from the pencils of eager students? Dare I suggest the fragrant plant tobacco? Come clean now! (Don't worry - I do about 5 cigs a day myself!)
Yes, I know what oedema is - swelling. The infant Oedipus was exposed at birth, and when found had already sustained some slight injury to his foot. His name comes from "pous," foot, and "oedema," swelling. "He of the swollen foot."
Itm, everybody please join me in refusing to accept this blog-post as a proper No. 500. It takes up only half the space provided! Let's hear more from you, dear Baron!!

  3. Ruth:

NCIS = Naval Criminal Investigative Service. It's also the name of a TV show based on that service. Think of the MI-5 show "Spooks," but with lots of plot holes and a lack of sophistication.

ZIVA = The name of a character in "NCIS." Ziva is a former Israeli MOSSAD officer, who then worked for NCIS (remember, I said there is a lack of sophistication?). The actress who plays Ziva is actually from South America, but the Latino accent is supposed to pass for a Hebrew one (remember I said...?).

SUV: Sports Utility Vehicle. However, the Baron probably means SVU = Special Victims Unit. It's also a TV show, but this one centers on catching sex perverts.

DC = You know this one.

    Is that all?

Thanks, Joel, that is completely enlightening. You can see how ignorant I was by my having (Gerund!) assumed the initials were to do with SPORT. As for Ziva, does the actress happen to be a nubile young lady? That tends to go a long way with male audiences, and moreover, I have a hunch that it's not her accent to which the gentlemen are paying any particular attention. Cousin Ruth
